- Kodokan is the largest domain school in Japan, established in 1841 (Tenpo 12) by Tokugawa Nariaki, the 9th lord of the Mito Domain.
- At Kodokan, where the original school buildings still stand, you can experience the academic spirit of Mito while walking through the quiet halls.
- The grounds are also famous as a plum blossom viewing spot, with approximately 800 plum trees of about 60 varieties planted within the area.
- Experience education in the Edo period by visiting both Kodokan, a place for martial and literary training, and Kairakuen, a place for relaxation.

- Facility Introduction -
The Kōdōkan, formerly a han school of the Mito Domain, was established as one of the key policies of the domain reforms promoted by the 9th lord, Tokugawa Nariaki.
The Main Gate, Main Hall, and Shizendō Hall, which survived numerous wars, are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan.
We invite you to take a stroll, reflect on history, and enjoy the nature that changes its appearance with the seasons.
